Hi. I'm Bianca, twenty years of age-- a lurker for a year or more. I decided I wanted to be a writer at the very young age, and stuck with it until college when reality struck. It takes a great amount of dedication and determination to be a writer, and it takes a lot more than that to get published. It takes even more to make money from it. So I let it fall by the wayside for a while but recently decided that, damn it, writing it what I want to do! It makes me happy. Sadly, however, I could think of nothing to write. Then I turned to prompts on the internet and was pleased with what I came up with. I do hope prompts are allowed.
All comments are appreciated. Please be critical (or encouraging) and don't hold back.
Now off to read and comment on some of the amazing stories in this community! =]
Title: Tequila Shots and Comic Books
Rating: PG13
Prompt: Weave a mini-story using the following words, in order: shell, comic book, discarded soap box, rubber soles, postcard.
Summary: The girl and the geek. The fast and the unexpected. The tequila shot and the comic books.

Link to Cover Art
Length: currently about 4300 words
Rating: T or PG-13 for violence and some language..
Genre(s): Scifi/fantasy, crime, attempt at cyberpunk
Summary: Ellysia Emery dies – but she can't remember what happened to her. All she can tell is that she seems to be losing her affect, her ability to feel and express emotion. She begins to have strange, supernatural experiences, including hearing electronic voice phenomena. One spirit contacts her, and beseeches Elle to catch the man who murdered her and six other women who are caught in limbo with her, so that their souls can move on. Ellysia takes up this mission while trying to figure out what it is that's taken all her emotions. The killer might be the key to it all, but she has to find him first.
I could use input not only on the story but on the summary, too. Does my summary take too much mystery away from the plot? Any suggestions on how to summarize without spoiling stuff? Does my summary make my story sound interesting?
As for the story... anything goes, really. I'm more interested in constructive criticism and improvement suggestions than simply whether you like it or not, though that would be nice too.

Hi:
I'm coming out from lurking to promote a favorite author who's been nominated for the Preditors & Editors Poll in two categories.
Patricia Morrison (who's written as Patricia Kennealy and Patricia Kennealy-Morrison) has been nominated in the Mystery Novel category for her latest book, California Screamin', and also in the Author Category. I'm drumming up interest and promoting votes for her.
If the name is familiar, Patricia is the author of The Keltiad series--The Copper Crown, The Throne of Scone, The Silver Branch, etc (all published through Harper Collins and Roc). And she also penned an autobiography, Strange Days: My Life with and without Jim Morrison through Plume. Patricia is now self-publishing through Lizard Queen Press, writing her Rennie Stride, The Rock and Roll Murders series, which are absolutely great.
To vote for her book: http://www.critters.org/predpoll/novelm ys.shtml

Thanks...and back to lurking. :-)

Self-described as "a little community with a lot of rage," you can soak up impassioned vibes and read blistering exposes detailing sexist attitudes in the news, pop culture, and science! A must-join community if you are, or love, a feminist. (NB: the topic of whether a "man" can be a feminist is outside the scope of this spotlight, but will probably wind up on the Writer's Block.)

Title: Lies and Evasion
Date Completed: 09.12.28
Rating: PG-13/T
Word Count: 1337
Author's Notes: An idea that spawned while I was lying in bed at about 0300 trying to ignore my rampant tinnitus. No beta, so any and all mistakes are mine. Needs help and may be confusing because I don't know anyone willing to read for me; the entire world is contained in my head and I don't always catch things that need explaining.
Summary: There are only so many ways to answer a question. There are even fewer for someone with something to hide.
"Archives just managed to get through the last millennium's worth of paper records. They're finally in digital, just like everyone in admin has been demanding since the back end of forever. Imagine how frustrated those Archivists were when they found another crate of stuff to be organized - and then imagine the looks on their faces when they realized all of the data of those twelve years had already been digitalized and sealed on the datapads packed in the crates."
"Quite amusing, I'd imagine, if they weren't going through crates that had already been labeled 'Do Not Touch.'"
"Can't really blame them for looking. You threatened to stick every one of those crews down there for the next thirty years scanning and summarizing after they missed that one stack of paperwork from 700 years ago. They didn't want to miss anything."

Summary:Leah has always known she was different, it was hard not too when you see things that people normally don't. Not to mention, her family has a knack for disappearing...and ending up in the crazy house. When her mother disappeared from her locked bedroom on her ninth birthday, Leah knew whoever was after them meant business. After almost nine years of keeping her head down, one new student threatens her silence.
TOUCHED15, 16 and 17
My mouth dried. “What do you do with them?”
“We stop them.”
The answer was curt and short and even though I knew better, I couldn’t help myself. “You mean kill them?”
The sudden silence in the room worried at my nerves.
“If that’s what it takes.”

Hello everyone.
In my journal, I'm writing a novella at a page a day, and when I finish a chapter, I edit and post it on FictionPress. It's called Beau and the Beast, a surreal story about tolerance...and its lack. I'm up to chapter seven (and about two-thirds done with the story overall), which can be read at the link below, or back in my journal. I welcome all comments, including critical ones--I'm looking to become as skilled a writer as I can, so I don't flinch at feedback.
Thanks for reading!

Rating: PG-13 for language and frightening imagery
Genre: Um. Surreal fantasy? Coming-of-age YA? Dark Romance?
Summary: Something is stalking Beau from the damp rot of the underground.
Word Count: 3130 (Latest chapter); 20,861 (Chapters 1-7)
And now...Life Left Behind.
